Introduction to Mountain Biking

Introduction to Mountain Biking (MTB)

 

This course is taught to British Cycling Mountain Bike Level 2 standards, developing a rider's basic MTB skills and techniques in an environment without the distraction of other trail features.

Overview

  • Your child is taught by a British Cycling qualified instructor in a small group (maximum 10)

  • Lessons are taught in a car-free environment

  • The course is 5 weekly sessions of 1.25 hours (a break may be incorporated for school holidays)

  • Each session builds on the previous session and the course will not accept new joiners part way through

  • Some sessions may involve the use of ramps and other equipment

  • Targeted at children in school years 5 to 8 who meet the requirements below

Requirements

  • A mountain bike in working order, comfortable clothing, sensible footwear and a helmet - gloves are a MUST

  • A parent/guardian is required to stay with the child during the lesson

  • This course is aimed at riders aged between 9 and 11 who can ride a bike confidently

  • Minimum of 3 children need to attend each session for insurance purposes

Outcomes

By attending an Introduction to Mountain Biking course, your child will learn the core techniques of:

  • Ready Position

  • Weight shift

  • Track stand

  • Wheel lifts (wheelies)

  • Braking

Cost

  • £50 per course of 5 weeks x 1.25 hours
