Build Confidence On Road

 

This course is taught to National Standards Level 2 (equivalent of Bikeability Level 1 and 2),

starting off in a safe, traffic-free environment and then taking riders out onto quiet roads to build confidence and understanding of the rules of the road.

Overview

  • Your child is taught by a qualified instructor 1:1 or 1:2

  • Lessons are taught on quiet roads with simple junctions

  • The course covers all elements of Junior Pedallers Bronze and Junior Pedallers Silver

  • The course is 3.5 - 4 hours, which includes 2 short breaks

Requirements

  • A bike in working order, comfortable clothing, sensible footwear and a helmet

  • We can supply a lightweight bike and a helmet for your child to use (by prior arrangement)

  • This course is aimed at children who are able to ride a bike and who are aged 9 or over (ideally Year 5 or above) who have not previously attended any formal cycling training 

Outcomes

By attending a Junior Pedallers Ruby course, your child should be able to:

  • Prepare themselves for cycling on the road

  • Start and finish an on road journey, including passing parked or slower moving vehicles and side roads

  • Recognise typical hazards

  • Signal intentions to other road users

  • Know where to ride on the road and how to share the road 

  • Be able to navigate junctions, turning left and right into major and minor roads

  • Comply with signals, signs and road markings

Cost

  • £75 per child (course with 2 riders) or £120 per child (1:1 coaching)

  • Courses can be arranged for small groups up to 6 riders - price will vary depending on number of children and location
